The traditional holiday resort of Girvan dates back to 1668 when it became a municipal burgh incorporated by Charter. Girvan is situated in Carrick, South Ayrshire on the east coast of the Firth of Clyde, with a population of about 6,700. It lies 21 miles south of Ayr. Girvan and District Community Council has the mission to ascertain, co-ordinate and express the wider views of the entire community within its boundaries.

Girvan and District Community Council is part of the Advisory Panel of the Girvan & District Assel Valley Community Fund. The Girvan & District Assel Valley Community Fund is funded by Falck Renewables from its Assel Valley wind farm in South Ayrshire. The fund supports projects located within or directly benefiting the community council area of Girvan & District.
