Our co-ownership scheme in the UK with the Fintry Renewable Energy Enterprise (FREE) is featured in International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)’s new paper “Stimulating investment in Community Energy: broadening the ownership of renewables”.
In 2007 we negotiated an agreement for the loaning of capital allowing FREE to become virtual owner of one of the 15 turbines Earlsburn windfarm in Scotland.
The loan is to be repaid through the sale of the eletricity generated and the revenues are also used to fund numerous energy sustainability initiatives to create a sustainble zeroemission community in Fintry. From improving household insulation to micro renewable, from grants to householders for Energy Efficiency and energy saving interventions to education grants and small biomass districtheating scheme, through the Fintry Development Trust.
